Laser measurement of the thickness of the refractory lining is at the core of our solution for the Basic Oxtgen Furnace (BOF) Converter. Minteq’s Ferrotron™ LaCam® products provide us with the capability to model the wear rates of the refractory lining on a daily basis, and over time. This real-time data allows for better decision making regarding refractory application, and furnace operations. Many managers in the steel-making community would not operate a BOF Converter without a LaCam® laser.
Minteq has two clear options for our customers, and each provides an excellent solution. The mobile LaCam-M has the capability to read multiple furnaces within the steel plant. In this configuration the mobile unit is mainly used as a refractory measurement tool, and guides the decision making on gunning, and furnace operational efficiency.
The LaCam-CI/CIE takes the performance of the LaCam-M, and places the unit in a fixed position on each BOF Converter. In the fixed position, the time required for complete measurement of the lining is greatly reduced compared to other technologies. In this case, the laser distance measurement can be used additionally as a process measurement tool. We have many global customers who have integrated this solution into their operation and computer system as an ultimate process control device.
